DNA barcoding
Genetic species identification, so a mystery find doesn't have to stay a mystery.

Books; non-invasive tools (hygrometers, thermometers, pH/moisture meters); small hand tools we re-sterilize centrally on return (tweezers, scissors, forceps); monitoring gear (USB microscopes, timelapse cams).
Book time in the lab instead
Flow hood, autoclave, incubators, and anything used for direct sterile work on substrate or cultures: already bookable lab equipment above, not take-home gear.
Buy at cost instead
Consumables dressed up as durable tools (scalpel blades, filter patches, injection ports); that's the supply policy's job, not the tool-share's.
Sign-out is logged, and checking a tool out (not just browsing the library) starts at the Mycelium tier. We re-sterilize hand tools centrally before they go back into circulation; you don't need to guarantee lab-grade sterility at home, just return things clean and dry.
